A little about Eden Standard Poodles

Eden Standard Poodles is located in Snellville, Georgia about 30 miles from Atlanta. We are close to Grayson, Lawrenceville and Loganville, Georgia. We are about 10 minutes from Stone Mountain Park.

I have been a Professional Pet Groomer for 35 years. I have groomed most breeds of dogs and some cats. I was the owner of A-Woof -A-Whinny&A-Purr-r Pet Grooming Salon that was located in Snellville, Georgia for 18 years. I have also worked with several vets in the area in the last 25 years.

In the 70's and 80's I bred and raised toy poodles and minature schnauzers. In the late 80's it was time to start a family. I have a son, Kevin, that is 24 and a daughter, Susie, that is 20. When Susie was 13 she fell in love with a clients Standard Poodle puppy named Linus. Susie had earlier been diagnosed with a brain tumor. We had to deal with lots of ups and downs during this time. The client ( a really wonderful friend ) gave Susie a black Standard Poodle puppy that we named "Hope". This was the beginning of Eden Standard Poodles. Since this time God has done many miracles in our lives. Susie's tumor has stopped growing, Praise God! Susie blessed us with a beautiful grandson in January 2006. We are mourning our loss of Hope in Feburary. She crossed the rainbow bridge and we miss her so much. I understand all of you who have lost a friend! She gave so much to us and we remember her with joy and sadness.

Our dogs live in the house with us sleep with us and tag along with us most every where we go. We are adding to our Eden Standard Poodle family. We are planning to add a red female and a little black female. We are going to add a little color to our house again!

We breed our females only once a year. If you are interested in one of our puppies please get on our waiting list! We only have a couple of litters a year because so much goes into our raising and training that is all we can manage!

We also have two cats. It is a real zoo sometimes around our house! Our goal at Eden is to breed healthy, beautiful and well adjusted puppies. We are breeding for disposition as well as health and beauty. It is important to us that the parents of our puppies are healthy, happy and love people. We will not breed a dog that does not get along with childen or other pets. There is a hereditary factor in temperment so we are very careful about the dogs that we choose to add to our breeding program. All of our puppies are well socialized and started on crate training. The puppies are picked up and played with from birth till they go to their new homes. They live the first 2 weeks in a small nursery that doubles as my grooming room, there they have peace and quiet with Mom. When the puppies are between 2 and 3 weeks old they are moved to our kitchen. We have a exersize pen that they stay in. This gets them used to all of the sights, sounds, and smells of homelife. We start them on food at 3 to 4 weeks of age and they really start to grow and develop their own personalities. We start crate training them in pairs at about 6 weeks of age and this is when they move to the big screen porch off of our living room kitchen area. They adjust really well to the crate and are usually accustomed to sleeping in it at night when they go to their new homes.

Feel free to contact us and come and meet our K-9 family. Our cats think they are poodles too. Check out the family pictures site. I have to tell you that I have met some of the nicest people in the world in the last several years. God has blessed me beyond words. I want to thank all of the people that have purchased a puppy from Eden Standard Poodles. I pray that the Light of the Lord will shine upon all of you. May God richly bless each and everyone of you. I say this from the bottom of my heart.

One of Joy's girls has gone to Virginia to a wonderful lady that is ready to take on a new bundle of licks. This little girl even helps with the Laundry. She picks it up and puts it in the washer! This little girl is going on three now and I am sure is still happy as can be!

My wonderful sister and brother-in-law have their new little girl. Her name is Loreena. She is growing into a wonderful little lady. My sister is progressing well from the horrible tradgey that left her in a wheel chair. Thanks to the Lord and the love of her husband and family she is still with us and still has her sense of humor. You can read her story at http://thearmstrongs.org. Loreena has a daughter of her own and is living with James and Carol. Grace is going on two this year. I can't believe that I have grand pups and now have great grand pups on the way!

We have two little boys that have gone to Wisconsin. They are living on 23 acres and will have many new friends to play with. There names are Noah and Moses. These boys have really grown into beautiful dogs.

And on a sad note, one of Faith and Seth's pups passed away New Years Day 2005. He was owned by a wonderful lady in Conneticut. I am telling this sad news for two reasons. The first reason is to pray for comfort for Joanne because she is heartbroken, the second reason is to tell his story so that he did not die in vain. Cole was a normal, healthy and awsome puppy. The day before New Years he apparently ingested a foreign object and it preforated his colon. Please let this be a reminder that puppies will be puppies and we have to make sure that they don't have any thing dangerous to chew on. This puppy possibily could have ingested a squeaker out of a toy. Joanne was a great, responsible pet owner so this shows that it can happen to anyone. Beware of rawhide bones and anything with squeakers.

Joanne has a new puppy to cuddle with now. His name is Buddy and he is a real beauty. We want to thank the George's for taking Joanne her new puppy when they drove down from Maryland to pick up their new baby girl, "Molly"

A little bit about the Standard Poodle Breed

The Standard Poodle has a life span of approximately 14-15 years. The key to having a healthy dog is to buy a healthy puppy. It is important to find a breeder that breeds only healthy Dams and Sires. It is also important to make sure that they do not have too many common ancestors in their pedigrees. Most reputable poodle breeders select their breeding stock by pedigrees. It is also important to get a health certificate and health guarantee with your new Standard Poodle puppy. Please remember that testing of parents does not guarantee that a puppy could not develop a hereditary problem. Genetic testing helps to eliminate some problems but others show up late in a dogs life. A responsible breeder may still have problems that crop up later, even if a dog has been screened or tested.

Standard Poodles are one of the best picks for people with allergies. The poodle has a wool coat and does not have near the amount of dander that other breeds have. The poodle has a very small amount of shedding. They do need to be brushed on a regular basis. They do require a good amount of grooming to keep them looking their best. If you or a member of your family has severe allergies, it is best to visit and spend a little time with a puppy or adult dog to be sure that there is no adverse reaction before buying a new puppy. Some people are allergic to all dogs. Period.

Standard Poodles rank second in intelligence of all the dog breeds today. They are fast learners and have a passion for fun. The Standard poodle breed has been used for service dogs for many years. They were bred in Germany as water retrievers. They make excellent gun dogs and love to hunt. Many owners love to train them in agility and in Obedience. The Standard Poodle loves children and is very protective of the family. They also require less structured exercise than most of the larger breeds of dogs. They will take a jog with their owner or be content to lay by them for hours. If you are looking for a shadow, then the Standard Poodle is the dog for you. They will follow you from room to room and never get enough of you, good mood or bad. They are very forgiving.

Standard Poodles are the largest of the poodle breed. Their size can range from 15 inches at the shoulder to 30 inches or better. They weigh from 35lbs to over 100lbs. They have a very sturdy body and should be square. They should have a scissor bite, but even bite is acceptable. The ears should be long and the top of the ear should be even with the eye. The eyes should be almond shaped and dark.

Standard Poodles come in a variety of colors. There is the Black Standard Poodle, Chocolate Standard Poodle, Blue Standard Poodle, White Standard Poodle, Silver Standard Poodle, Apricot Standard Poodle, Red Standard Poodle and various shades of the Cream Standard Poodle. There are a few more colors that are accepted by AKC. Solid colors are preferred, but the Standard Poodle also come in parti colors. This can be a small amount of white or spotted. The color does not change the beauty or disposition of the dogs. The only draw back is that AKC will not let them be shown. Don't forget that they can also be registered with CKC and UKC. The CKC does not frown upon the different colors that are other than solid.

Pet Grooming

Standard Poodles require regular grooming and brushing. Clipping should be done about every 4 to 6 weeks. It is very important to train them young to love the grooming process. Most all Standard Poodles enjoy the time spent brushing and combing them. It becomes a special time that is just set aside for them. The more often that they are brushed the better for the condition of the coat. The nails and ears should be tended to on a monthly basis also. You might want to check out our puppy care page for more information on how to care for your new puppy.

I am available for grooming in the Atlanta area. I can be contacted at 404-281-2953. I specialize in hand scissoring. I only accept standing appointments of 6 weeks or less. I don't do large breeds that are over 55 pounds.

It is always a pleasure meeting the new puppy owners. May God Bless each and every one of you. I pray that all of the puppies that are born to Eden Standard Poodles will become wonderful additions to the family and will bring many years of protection and fun.
